Publishing Articles in the Wedding Guide

The Wedding Guide publishes articles based on the knowledge and first-hand experience of wedding industry professionals. The aim is to offer useful, reliable and engaging content that helps couples plan their weddings, understand the services available to them and explore different perspectives from people who work in the industry. These guidelines explain what we’re looking for, how to submit an article and what to expect from the editorial process.

What Kind of Articles Are We Looking For?

We’re particularly interested in:

  • Practical advice that answers real questions couples have when planning their wedding.
  • Articles explaining different wedding services and what couples should know about them.
  • First-hand experiences, professional insights and lessons learnt on the job.
  • Discussions of common problems, mistakes and misunderstandings.
  • Unusual ideas, creative approaches and fresh perspectives on wedding traditions.

This isn’t an exhaustive list. We’re also happy to consider other wedding-related content, including behind-the-scenes stories, real wedding experiences, features on wedding customs and traditions, cultural and social aspects of marriage, and personal reflections from industry professionals. What matters most is that an article has something interesting, credible and worthwhile to offer its readers.

We recommend a minimum of 600 words per article, although more complex subjects may need considerably more space. Shorter submissions may be considered where the subject is covered thoroughly and the content offers genuine value. Equally, there’s no need to pad out an article simply to reach a particular word count.

What Do We Expect From Contributors?

Articles should be accurate, informative and written with the reader in mind. We particularly value personal experience, practical examples and observations drawn from working in the wedding industry. Write clearly and naturally, avoiding unnecessary jargon, repetitive keywords and lengthy passages that don’t add anything useful.

AI tools may be used to help plan, organise or edit an article, but they shouldn’t replace the contributor’s own knowledge and experience. Authors remain responsible for the accuracy, originality and overall quality of everything they submit. We don’t accept plagiarism, mass-produced AI content with little or no original input, or articles that are essentially advertisements disguised as advice.

Originality and Previously Published Content

The Wedding Guide gives preference to original articles written specifically for the website. If your proposed article has appeared elsewhere, please let us know when submitting it and provide links to all previous online publications you’re aware of.

We may consider substantially rewritten, updated or expanded versions of previously published articles, provided they offer meaningful new information or a genuinely different perspective. Simply changing the headline, rearranging paragraphs or rewording a few sentences isn’t enough. Previously published material, including revised versions, is assessed individually, and the Wedding Guide may decline submissions that are too similar to existing content or don’t offer sufficient additional value.

First Publication and Exclusivity

Articles written specifically for the Wedding Guide should make their first appearance on our website. For 60 days from the date of publication, authors must not republish the full article on their own websites or elsewhere.

During this period, authors are welcome to share short extracts, summaries or previews on their websites, blogs and social media, with a link to the full article on the Wedding Guide. After 60 days, authors may republish the article elsewhere, provided they acknowledge the Wedding Guide as the original place of publication and include a link to the original article.

This restriction applies to the article itself, not the subject. Authors are free to write separate pieces covering similar topics at any time. Where a substantially revised version of previously published material is accepted, the 60-day exclusivity period applies only to the new version prepared for the Wedding Guide. The earlier article may remain available in its original location.

Contributors are welcome to draw on their own work, describe real projects and share examples from their professional experience where these are relevant to the subject. However, articles shouldn’t be filled with sales pitches, repeated calls to book a service or passages written purely to promote a business. Information about the author and a link to their business website can be included in their Wedding Guide professional profile.

Links within articles should have a clear editorial purpose and be genuinely useful to readers. All links are subject to editorial review and may be approved, amended or removed. We don’t accept undisclosed advertising, paid link placements or attempts to use the Wedding Guide for artificial link-building schemes.

Photographs and Supporting Materials

Articles may include photographs, illustrations or other visual materials that help explain or illustrate the subject. Contributors must have the necessary rights or permissions for any materials submitted for publication. If a photograph or other asset requires a credit, please provide the relevant details. The Wedding Guide may decline to publish materials where ownership or permission to use them is unclear.

How to Submit an Article

We recommend starting with an article proposal: a suggested topic and a brief outline of what you’d like to cover. This helps establish whether the subject is suitable for the Wedding Guide and whether it overlaps too closely with content already published or in preparation. You’re also welcome to submit a completed article for consideration.

Every submission is reviewed for relevance, accuracy, originality and overall editorial quality. We may suggest changes, request additional information or clarification, or recommend adjustments to the headline or structure. Any substantial edits that affect the author’s intended meaning will be discussed before publication. Submitting a proposal or completed article does not guarantee acceptance or publication. The Wedding Guide reserves the right to decline any submission.

Authorship and Content Rights

Authors retain copyright in their original work. Publication requires the author to grant the Wedding Guide permission to publish and display the article on the website and to promote it through the Wedding Guide’s communication channels. Published articles will include an author credit.

To keep information accurate and useful, we may occasionally ask contributors to update or correct their articles. The Wedding Guide also reserves the right to correct obvious editorial errors and to amend or remove content that is inaccurate, outdated or in breach of these guidelines.

Have an Article in Mind?

You don’t need to be a professional writer. What matters is your knowledge, experience and ability to share something that could be genuinely useful to couples planning their wedding.
