I’ve spoken with countless couples about their apprehensions regarding photography, and a common theme emerges: many are hesitant to participate in photoshoots. This reluctance is particularly pronounced among the male half of the partnership. Common excuses include a perceived lack of photogenic qualities or the stress associated with being in front of the camera. Let’s face it, not everyone is a natural model.
I must admit, I’m not particularly fond of being photographed myself. However, I recognize the value of capturing memorable moments.
Consider the images below. Do these individuals appear stressed? Certainly not, despite their initial trepidation. After a brief conversation, I guided them on how to relax and be themselves. I encouraged them to walk, laugh, embrace, and simply enjoy each other’s company while I discreetly observed from the sidelines. We even added a touch of spontaneity by suggesting they dance and play around. The couple later expressed regret at not bringing a bottle of wine along for added enjoyment, but the session was nonetheless filled with laughter and resulted in some stunning photographs.
My primary goal is to capture authentic and natural moments. Whether I’m photographing a wedding or a couple like this one, my approach remains consistent.
